Slip Textured Keepsake Jar with Honey Pearl Glaze and Purple Interior
Slip Textured Keepsake Jar with Honey Pearl Glaze and Purple Interior
This pretty handmade jar is a fantastic container for storing sugar, tea or spices, or it could be a beautiful box for jewelry or other keepsakes. The Honey Pearl glaze over the slipped surface texture creates valleys of plum and lavender. The interior of the jar is glazed in Emily Purple glaze, which is a bright and cheery surprise beneath the lid. This jar is pretty to view and fun to use.
DIMENSIONS
The jar stands nearly 3 3/8 inches tall to the top of the lid, without the lid it's about 2 3/4" tall. It's 2 1/4" wide measured across the inner opening, and the outside is about 3 1/2" in diameter. The jar can hold a cup when totally full.
This piece was created on my pottery wheel using Rod's Bod clay. The jar's lid and body were thrown as a single, enclosed piece. The lid was cut away from the body, and each side was trimmed to fit. Slip (clay that's been watered down and blended smooth) was painted around the body of the jar and in a swirl up over the lid using a jagged brush. The slip texture provided ridges for the pearl glaze to swirl and pool around.
