Rutile Blue and Brown Keepsake Jar with Purple Interior
This pretty little handmade jar could make a beautiful jewelry box, or a cute container for keepsakes. It would be perfect as a sugar bowl or salt cellar, and would look lovely on any countertop or table. The transparent rutile glaze flows around the white slip texture, creating subtle whisps of purple and blue over the natural colors of the clay. The interior is a bright and cheery purple.
The jar stands about 3 1/2 inches tall to the top of the lid, and nearly 3 inches tall without the lid. The inner opening is nearly 2 1/4" wide, and the jar is about 3 1/4" wide at its widest point. This jar will hold 3/4 cup easily, it holds nearly a cup when full.
All of my pottery is microwave and dishwasher safe.
This jar was made on my pottery wheel using stoneware clay. White slip (clay blended with water) was applied to the outside of the jar to create some texture. The interior of the jar was glazed in emily purple glaze. The entire jar, interior and exterior, was then glazed in rutile. The jar was fired to cone 10 in a reduced oxygen atmosphere.
