Rods Wood Fired Slip Textured Bottle
Rods Wood Fired Slip Textured Bottle
This wood fired oil bottle is perfect for serving any kind of oil or vinegar, or any other liquid you may want to serve out of something beautiful. The spiral shape and slip texture combined with the wood fired finish makes this bottle very pleasant to grasp and easy to handle.
The bottle stands 8" tall without the spout (a bit over 10" tall with). At the shoulder it's about 4 1/4" across, and it can hold 17 ounces, or 500 ml. The spout fits securely but is easy to remove, and the swirl shape provides a secure grip from either the right of the left.
All of my pottery is microwave and dishwasher safe.
The bottle was thrown on my pottery wheel using stoneware clay. A layer of white slip was painted around the neck and shoulder, and a jagged brush was used to create some texture through the slip. The exterior of the bottle was left unglazed. The interior was glazed with woo blue glaze, for easy cleanup. The piece was wood fired to cone 12 at the Desert Dragon Pottery Studio in North Phoenix AZ.
Wood firing pottery is a traditional method where pottery is fired in a kiln fueled solely by wood, resulting in unique colors, textures, and patterns due to the interaction of flame and ash with the clay surfaces. The process infuses every piece with both the warmth of the fire and the community effort involved in firing the wood kiln.
