Honey Pearl Wood Fired Bud Vase
Honey Pearl Wood Fired Bud Vase
This is a gorgeous little wood fired vase with an earthy and rich finish. This would be a perfect bookshelf vase, or it could perk up a bathroom, an office or a small side table without taking up much space. Of course it would be an excellent home for a few pretty flowers or feathers, bright colors would stand out beautifully against the rich neutral backdrop of this vase.
This vase stands 5 inches tall, measures approximately 3" wide at the belly, and it's nearly 3" across the lip. It's a fantastic size for a single flower bud, but the opening is generous enough to handle a small bouquet or a few slim pencils, paintbrushes, or other keepsakes.
This piece was created on my pottery wheel using Laguna Rods Bod clay. The vase was glazed in Honey Pearl glaze inside, over the lip and down the neck. From the shoulder down, the pot was left unglazed, allowing the wood fire atmosphere to leave its mark on the bare clay. This pot was wood fired at the Desert Dragon Pottery in North Phoenix.
Wood firing pottery is a traditional method where pottery is fired in a kiln fueled solely by wood, resulting in unique colors, textures, and patterns due to the interaction of flame and ash with the clay surfaces. The process infuses every piece with both the warmth of the fire and the community effort involved in firing the wood kiln.
