Woo Blue Wood Fired Textured Mug
Woo Blue Wood Fired Textured Mug
This handsome wood fired mug would be fantastic for your daily tea or coffee. The generous hand pulled handle is comfortable to hold, and the cup holds over 13 ounces. The woo blue glaze reacted beautifully in the wood firing atmosphere, resulting in a galaxy of blues. The bare clay texture on the belly of the mug looks soft, and rich in color; it feels so nice to hold.
This cup stands 4 1/2 inches tall, and it's 3" wide at the lip. It's a nice size, holding over 13 oz - great for those who prefer a hot cup over a giant cup. All of my pottery is microwave and dishwasher safe.
I created this mug on my pottery wheel, using Laguna BMix clay (a white clay). Brown slip (watered down clay blended with iron oxide) was painted around the belly with a jagged brush, to create the brown texture. The handle was pulled (formed) by hand. The mug was glazed with woo blue glaze on the interior, lip and down to the belly. This piece was wood fired at the Desert Dragon Pottery Studio in N Phoenix AZ.
Wood firing pottery is a traditional method where pottery is fired in a kiln fueled solely by wood, resulting in unique colors, textures, and patterns due to the interaction of flame and ash with the clay surfaces. The process infuses every piece with both the warmth of the fire and the community effort involved in firing the wood kiln.
