Rods Slipped and Swirled Wood Fired Bottle

$65.00

This Wood Fired Bottle is perfect for serving any kind of olive oil or vinegar, or any other liquid you may want to serve with style. This is a very striking and dynamic piece, it would be gorgeous left out on any kitchen counter. The spiral shape makes this bottle pleasant to grasp and easy to handle. Weighing in at 1lb 5oz, pouring with this piece should be easy and fun.

The bottle stands 8 inches tall, close to 10 1/2" with the metal spout. The piece is about 4" wide at the widest spot, and it holds just about 20 oz (well over 500 ml). This is a great size for a medium sized bottle of oil - perfect for your very best olive oil or favorite flavor of vinegar.

The inside and top of the bottle was glazed in Tenmoku glaze; the glazed interior will help make for an easy cleanup. All of my pottery is microwave and dishwasher safe.

The piece was created on my potters wheel using Rods Bod clay, a dark stoneware clay. A layer of white slip (clay blended with water) was painted around most of the body of the pot while it was still wet on the wheel, before the neck was narrowed. Texture was painted in through the wet slip using a jagged brush. Then the swirl shape was pressed into the pot through the wet slip, as it was spinning on the wheel. Finally the pot was narrowed in at the top to form the neck and opening.

***Wood firing pottery is a traditional method where pottery is fired in a kiln fueled solely by wood, resulting in unique colors, textures, and patterns due to the interaction of flame and ash with the clay surfaces. The process infuses every piece with both the warmth of the fire and the community effort involved in firing the wood kiln. ***

This pot was fired at the Desert Dragon Pottery Studio in North Phoenix, AZ.
