Rods Bod Swirled and Spattered Wood Fired Vase
Rods Bod Swirled and Spattered Wood Fired Vase
This large Rods Bod Swirled and Splattered Wood Fired Vase stands 10.25 inches tall, is about 4.25 inches wide at the belly and at the lip. It has a fairly narrow opening, great for proudly displaying a smaller bouquet of flowers, or maybe a few sunflowers.
The neutral browns and golds on the surface of the vase make a gorgeous backdrop for flowers; but the piece is striking enough to be set out on it's own.
All of my pottery is microwave and dishwasher safe.
The vase was made with Rods Bod clay, the white clay slip and swirl shape was applied to the vase as it was thrown on the wheel. The slip spatters were added soon after the piece was thrown, using both a white slip and a slip stained with brown iron oxide. The outside of the vase was left unglazed, and the inside was glazed with a simple white liner glaze. The piece was fired in a wood burning kiln, the atmosphere of the kiln helped to create the rich colors and textured around the outer surface of the vase.
