Black Soda Fired Planter with Attached Drip Plate
Black Soda Fired Planter with Attached Drip Plate
This is a sharp, bold and beautiful planter; it could work well indoors or out. It's perfect for a small patio or balcony, or a kitchen counter. It has 2 drainage holes in the bottom, about the size of a bean. The neutral black and brown color pallet would work well with many types of decor.
DIMENSIONS
This planter stands 4.5 inches tall, and its about 5" wide at the lip. At the base, it's about 6" across the outer rim of the plate. The pot has a swirl shape, adding some edges for the glaze to run and pool around.
All of my pottery is microwave and dishwasher safe unless otherwise noted.
The planter was made on my potters wheel using a dark stoneware clay. A swirl added to the wet pot, to give the shape movement and texture. A slow dip of Tenmoku glaze was applied to most of the pot, with Goldspot glaze applied to the rim.
This piece was fired to cone 10 in a reduction gas kiln, and soda ash was added to the kiln near the top temperature. The soda in the atmosphere adds some extra color and dynamic vibrance to the glazes.
