Puffs Spring Firings 2018

We did a few Wood firings in the Spring of 2017. A Michigan design studio contacted us, they were interested in a batch of large wood fired tiles that they hoped to use in an installation they were planning for in Yuma. The Installation plans did not pan out, but the studio did fund our firing efforts - it was an excellent opportunity for us to explore a technically difficult wood firing challenge!

The tiles did turn quite pretty, but there was some warping and cracking - a problem we foresaw, and did our best to avoid. Mishy and I have plans to find a project or two that we can use these for in the future :)

I will include a few pictures of the tiles and firing below.

My Brother John helped out with this firing. I’m recruiting him for the next one as well!

Group 1, the first 2 groups are the most intact and least warped.

Group 5, also quite broken and cracked. But the 2 on the right are gorgeous, we may have to break these up into smaller pieces and tile something with them.
